Teaching is not a matter of following recipes but ultimately requires teachers who are able to make wise situated judgments about what is educationally desirable.Gert Biesta, The Beautiful Risk of Education
Technology to Improve Learning is a required class for the School of Education at the University of South Dakota. My primary goal for my iteration of the course is to prepare students to consciously and critically adopt technology that will meet the learning outcomes they want their students to achieve. In my welcome letter to students I have clarified that it is much more important to me that they think through how a specific tool affects their course than that they master any tool. My teaching approach is designed to offer experiential moments where students practice with a tool and consider if it would work for their course and what kind of support their students would need.
